Warwick Castle
Today I went with a bunch of friends to Warwick to visit the castle. Even after all these years abroad, I still am not used to long car journeys. I can do long bus journeys - it took us 8 hours solid to get to the lake district - but in a small car, 2 hours nearly killed me. On the way back I had to sleep or risk embarrassing myself and making a mess in the car.
It was well worth it tough. It was also well worth getting soaked to the skin in a freak heavy shower at 11am. We were sitting in the sun in the gardens watching a re-enactment of a trebuchet in action. Oh my! Impressive does not even get close to it. And suddenly the heavens opened and we all ran to the trees. But it was so heavy that even the trees were no protection at all. We spent a few miserable minutes bemoaning the fact that we had umbrellas and raincoats in the cars. Then we forgot about it and enjoyed the day. There is a lot to see in the castle and huge numbers of steps to walk up and down. The battalion walk alone meant going up more than 500 steps all of them small, uneven and circular. What fun.
The rooms inside the main castle buildings are all decorated in Edwardian style complete with dressed wax figurines and all. The basement is all done up in Medieval style at the time of the war of the roses.
Watch this space for photos :)
